Visit to DRC Congo 6 – 14 October, 2021
The primary purpose of visiting the Pakistani Peacekeepers was to witness their operational commitment to the mandate assigned by the UN in DRC. In addition, the objective was to identify any gaps in the training being imparted to the potential peacekeepers so that the deficiency could be comprehensively addressed. According to Brig Mirza Saleem Beig (Retd), it was heartening to note that all the units are aware of the UN resolve based on important studies such as the HIPPO Report (16 Jun 2015), identifying inadequacies in addressing the concerns of the vulnerable and affected population; Santos Cruz Report (2017) on improving the security of the peacekeepers focusing on three main areas operational behaviour and mindset, capacity building and readiness, and support issues; and the A4P initiative aims to
strengthen peacekeeping through collective actions by all peacekeeping stakeholders. Such visits certainly enhance the awareness level of the faculty and are expected to continue.
