UNITED NATIONS STAFF OBSERVER OFFICER COURSE – 13

A United Nations Integrated Training Service (UNITS) certified Staff Officers Course serial – 13 was conducted at Peacekeeping Training Department, CIPS from 17 April to 28 April 2017. This course had twenty six participants which included sixteen from Pakistan Armed Forces and Ten Foreign participants. Foreign participants were from Thailand, Nigeria, United Kingdom, Egypt and Bangladesh. For the first time, three Lady Police Officers Peacekeepers from Thailand also attended the course.

The participants went through the learning process which included all the four UN modules including Core Pre deployment Training, Specialized Training Material and In Mission training. Besides PKT department faculty members, the lectures were given by multidimensional experts/ Guest Speakers which included members from UN Agencies, Senior Armed Forces Officers, UN Mission Experts, Officers from Military Operations Directorate, GHQ and few others. A two day situation based scenario oriented CARANA exercise was also conducted which gave lot of practical experience to the participants.

Foreign students were administratively looked after well. They were taken around within Islamabad as well as Murree, a nearby hill resort for site seeing, shopping and excursion. A formal farewell dinner was hosted for all the participants.

The course ended with a formal closing ceremony in which Lieutenant General Syed Tariq Nadeem Gilani (Retd) was the Chief Guest. Acting High Commissioner of Nigeria, Senior Army officers, reps of UN organizations, Defence Attaches and others also attended the closing ceremony. The successful participants were awarded UN ITS certificate by the Chief Guest.
