UN Comprehensive Protection of Civilians Course (UNCPOC) – 8
Gen. United Nations Comprehensive Protection of Civilian Course – 8 (UNPoCC – 8) was conducted in a hybrid manner. Face to Face (FTF) mode for Pakistani participants and online for Foreign participants from Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), NUST Islamabad. The course was conducted from 28 March 2022 to 08 Apr 2022. This is UN certified course conducted at Pakistan Peacekeeping Training Department with a purpose to educate / sensitize the participants about functioning of UN and roles and responsibilities of the Peacekeepers and educating participants of working with peacekeeping operation to develop a conceptual framework for PoC.
Participation. 17 participants from Army (Pakistan and Friendly Countries) and Civilian from various institutions attended the course. These included 02 officers from Pakistan Army, 08 officers from friendly countries and 07 civilians from different Universities / Education institutions. The Foreign participants were from Egypt, Nigeria, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and United Arab Emirates (3 officers).
Conduct Methodology. This was a combination of Face to Face (FTF) and Distant Learning (DL) mode. The Pakistani participants attended the course physically whereas the foreign participants attended online course using Microsoft team. The participants went through an initial test at the commencement of the course. The course mainly focused on latest Specialized Training Material (STM) for Protection of Civilians. However, important and relevant lectures from Core Pre-deployment Training Module (CPTM 2107) were included. Subject Matters Experts (SMEs) also delivered lectures. Reps of relevant UN Organizations like UNWOMEN, UNOCHA, UNHCR, UNAIDS also delivered lectures. The phases of conduct were
- Phase 1: Core Pre Deployment Training Module (CPTM)
- Phase 2: Reinforced Training package PoC (RTP) covering Operational Level, Conceptual and Legal Framework
- Phase 3: In Mission training (Country Presentations)
- Phase 4: Scenario based activity
- Phase 5: Assimilation Test (at the end of the course)
Certificates. As this course was conducted on a hybrid arrangement therefore Pakistan participants were given certificates in a closing ceremony whereas certificates for the foreign participants were dispatched through diplomatic bag of their respective Embassies.
