NUST Centre for International Peace & Stability (CIPS), in collaboration with the National Security Division (Pakistan) organized “Security Dialogue – Special Session on Afghanistan” on Thursday, 30 September 2021. Dr Moeed Yusuf, National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, addressed the session and identified complexities pertaining to the current Afghan situation and policy implications for Pakistan. Further, he explained Pakistan’s position in the post-US withdrawal Afghanistan scenario. He elaborated that, at the policy level, Pakistan’s relations with Afghanistan include “connectivity, development, and peace”. Dr Yusuf also held a detailed discussion session with students and faculty members of NUST.
During the discussion session, Maj Gen Muhammad Salim Raza, HI (M), (Retd), Principal NIPCONS, expressed his views over the transnational nature of traditional and non-traditional security threats having potential to exacerbate insecurity. He advised students and scholars to remain abreast with policy debates in order to have more informed opinions on matters of national security.
Earlier, Professor Tughral Yamin, Associate Dean CIPS, highlighted the need to adopt a strategy to enhance the academic collaborations between Pakistan and Afghanistan that can contribute towards recovery, development, and sustainable peace.
