In view of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February, a second Colloquium on Russia-Ukraine Crisis was organized by the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CISP), National University of Sciences and Technology, (NUST) on the 1st March, 2022. The objective was to discuss the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine and the response by the global community. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Tughral Yamin.

The session was graced with the presence of discussants; Ambassador (Retd) Syed Tariq Fatemi; Ambassador (Retd.) Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry; Maj. Gen (Retd) Wajahat Ali Muftee; Dr. Przemysław Osiewicz; and Dr. Muhammad Riaz Shad.

Dr. Yamin commenced the session with the assertion that Ukraine has become a nuclear flashpoint of the world because President Putin had put Russian Nuclear Forces on high alert in anticipation against any aggression by the Western European countries and NATO. He further highlighted several important themes for discussion, which were; Ukrainian resistance against Russian occupation; Russian strategic objectives in Ukraine; chances of the refugee crisis in Europe; options for NATO in the Russian-Ukraine conflict; a role for UN peacekeeping in the contested Donbas region of Ukraine; the role of Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE); Biden administration response to the evolving situation in the long run; effect of ongoing conflict on the global politics; and options for Pakistan in transforming world order.
