PROTECTION OF CIVILIANS (POC) COURSE – 5
Gen. United Nations Comprehensive Protection of Civilian Course – 5 (UNPoCC – 5) was conducted online from Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS), NUST Islamabad from 05 Dec 2020 to 01 Jan 2021 with a purpose to educate / sensitize the participants about functioning of UN and roles and responsibilities of the Peacekeepers and educating participants of working with peacekeeping operation to develop a conceptual framework for PoC.
Participation. 35 students from Army, Police and Civilian attended the course. These included 10 officers including female officers from Pakistan Army, 1 officers from Pakistan Police, 9 officers from friendly countries and 15 civilians from different education institutions. The foreign participants were from Bangladesh, Jordan (two officers), Japan, Nigeria (two officers), Sri Lanka (two officers) and an officer from UK.
Conduct Methodology. The participants go through an initial test at the commencement of the course. The online course mainly focused on latest Specialized Training Material (STM) for Protection of Civilians. However, important and relevant lectures from Core Pre-deployment Training Module (CPTM 2107) were included. Subject Matters Experts (SMEs) also delivered lectures. Reps of relevant UN Organizations like UNWOMEN, UNOCHA, UNHCR, UNAIDS also delivered lectures. The phases of conduct were
- Phase 1: Core Pre Deployment Training Module (CPTM)
- Phase 2: Reinforced Training package PoC (RTP) covering Operational Level, Conceptual and Legal Framework
- Phase 3: In Mission training (Country Presentations)
- Phase 4: Scenario based activity
- Phase 5: Assimilation Test (at the end of the course)
Certificates. As this was the first Distance Learning (DL) online course so there was no organized closing ceremony. The certificates of the participants were dispatched using national courier service for all Pakistan participants and Diplomatic bag of respective Embassies for all foreign participants.
