German Armed Forces United Nations Training Centre, 22 -25 November 2016

A two member delegation headed by Brigadier Imran Rashid (Retd) and GSO 1 (Training / Coord) Lt Col Aamir Hussain Khan visited German Armed Forces United Nations Training Centre located at Hammelburg, Germany from 22 – 25 November 2016.

Information about training Centre   It’s a tactical level, international, interagency pre-deployment training establishment which is well spread having indoor training, recreational and state of the art outdoor practical training areas. Its mission is to conduct courses to qualify National and International Military Observers and Liaison officers as well as persons earmarked for foreign security forces mentoring, advising and partnering.

 

 

It’s a well-organized centre headed by a Commandant, many Director Staff as well as two Training Divisions and a Support Company. The Centre has international relations with UN, Four Peace Centre Europe (a joint cooperation of the peacekeeping Centres of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherland), IAPTC and also acts as NATO Partnership Training and Educating Centre.

Activities witnessed/ visited.  The delegates were given a comprehensive briefing about the training activities undertaken by the Centre. Training Facilities visited and witnessed were lectures given to Military Observers, practical training which included Medevac, Hostage taking, establishment of an illegal check post, as part of a different complex situations handing. A very elaborate and well established Mines, Explosives and IED training facility (German Army experience of operations in Afghanistan) was also visited.

 

Conclusion. The visit helped in understanding Germany peacekeeping Training and International and Regional collaboration/ cooperation. The delegate members and German Training Centre Commandant agreed to share best practices and lesson learned of UN peacekeeping to continue with the bondage. At the end of the visit Souvenirs were exchanged and publication were shared.
