Visit of the UN Delegation to CIPS – 25th July 2022
Delegation
A three-member delegation from the United Nations Headquarters led by Mr. Ivo Jose Pereira (Brazil) visited CIPS on July 25, 2022. The other two members of the delegation were Mr. Adler Cardoso Ferreira (Brazil) and Mrs. Natalia Golovinova (Russia). The UN delegation was on a verification visit to RDL Infantry Battalion & level-2 Hospital, and Assessment Advisory Visit of QRF, Force Protection, and EOD Company.
The delegation was welcomed by the Senior Research Fellow Brig. Imran Rashid (Retd) Research and Analysis Cell, Peacekeeping Training (PKT) Department. GSO-1 (Training) Lt. Col. Imran Ahmad later briefed the distinguished guests about CIPS and PKT Department at NUST. The briefing was followed by an interactive session whereby the delegates were further briefed about the current and future ventures of the Centre alongside insights about the Training framework at the PKT Department. Mr. Pereira appreciated the structure of CIPS, which combines both academic research and peacekeeping training, reflecting the futuristic approach of the Centre. Participants also discussed the future avenues of collaboration between the UN ad CIPS, especially within the domains of Climate change and its relation to conflict and conflict resolution. In the end, participants discussed the current trends/patterns of the insurgency in UN Peacekeeping Missions especially, MINUSMA and MONUSCO, and the role of UN Peacekeepers to counter the existing threats in the region.
After the discussion session, Brig. Imran extended the vote of thanks and presented the institutional souvenirs to the delegates. The delegate’s members were then requested for a group photograph after which they were taken on a guided tour of NUST. They were finally seen off by the faculty from CIPS in the afternoon.
