Description

The United Nations Pre-Deployment Training Course – 45 (UNPDTC-45) was held at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS) from 22 to 03 July 2026. This course provides foundational training for all peacekeeping personnel, equipping them with the essential knowledge needed to operate effectively in UN peacekeeping missions. Its primary objective is to adopt a shared understanding of UN peacekeeping’s core principles, procedures, and policies. The course covers critical themes and priorities, including conduct and discipline, sexual exploitation and abuse, the protection of civilians, human rights, gender mainstreaming, conflict-related sexual violence, child protection, and environmental protection.

Participants

The course was attended by 36 personnel from the Pakistan Army.

Conduct Methodology

The course was designed to prepare peacekeeping personnel for their roles in assisting the host countries in their pursuit of peace. It covered basic UN functioning and specialized assignments through modules like Core Pre-deployment Training Material (CPTM), which focused on UN systems, legal frameworks, and specific subjects. Also, the adjunct Faculty presentations provided insights from UN partners. Scenario-based exercises enhanced participants’ responses to diverse situations, fostering readiness for UN security and cultural environments.

Closing Ceremony

Dr. Muhammad Makki, Associate Dean of CIPS, delivered the closing remarks after the certificate distribution ceremony. He expressed his pleasure at addressing the participants and congratulated them on successfully completing the course. He highlighted that the training at the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS) showcases the UN’s diversity and, although it lasts only two weeks, offers an experience very close to a real UN office setting. He further emphasized that the Department of Peace Operations Training (DPOT) has made significant progress in a short span, organizing 234 courses and training over 4,477 peacekeepers in accordance with UN policies and guidelines. He underscored Pakistan’s meaningful role in United Nations peacekeeping missions, highlighting its consistent contributions of soldiers, police officers, diplomats, civil servants, and relief workers in conflict areas under the UN flag. He noted that Pakistan ranks among the leading Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs), with its commitment to international peace widely acknowledged. Dr. Makki congratulated the graduates of UNPDTC-45 and expressed confidence that the course would be an important milestone in deepening participants’ understanding of UN systems and preparing them for their future roles and extended his best wishes to all participants for their future professional pursuits.
