U.S. Delegation 2025

-

A U.S. delegation comprising Col Joshua Stephenson (Army Attaché), Maj Steinmetz, and Ms Norva Hall visited the Centre for International Peace and Stability (CIPS) on 29 August 2025 at the invitation of Principal NIPCONS. The delegation was given an overview of Pakistan’s substantial contributions to global peace, CIPS’s role as a regional centre of excellence in peacekeeping training, and its distinctive hybrid model that integrates Peace and Conflict Studies (PCS) with Peacekeeping Training (PKT). They also observed the Centre’s innovative use of Virtual Reality (VR) in training, reflecting CIPS’s commitment to advancing modern peacekeeping practices.

During discussions with Principal NIPCONS, Maj Gen Zahid Mahmood (Retd), the regional security landscape and the evolving situation in Afghanistan were highlighted. The Principal underscored the importance of elevating Pakistan–U.S. relations from a tactical to a strategic level of cooperation, particularly in peacekeeping. Continued participation of U.S. officers in CIPS courses was acknowledged as a positive step towards deeper collaboration, and an invitation was extended to the U.S. Military Attaché and Ambassador to attend upcoming seminars and Round Table Conferences. The U.S. delegation expressed appreciation for the visit and commended Pakistan’s broader peacekeeping efforts, with special recognition of CIPS’s role in advancing global peace.
